STREAM Activity: Thankful Sunflower

With the holiday season approaching it gives us an opportunity to reflect on our year and appreciate what we’ve accomplished. It’s also a good time to model thankfulness. Thankfulness is feeling and expressing appreciation/gratitude towards something. One way to start is by writing a short list of things you’re thankful for and turning it into a Thankful Sunflower!

GUIDING QUESTION

  • Why should we be thankful?

MATERIALS

  • Paper plate

  • Yellow, brown, and green construction paper

  • Glue stick

  • Scissors

  • Marker

DIRECTIONS

STEP 1

Cut out six small circles from your yellow paper. These will be the petals for your sunflower!

STEP 2

Write six different things you are thankful for on each petal.

STEP 3

Now glue your petals onto a paper plate. The paper plate will help keep our sunflower sturdy!

STEP 4

Next, grab the brown paper and cut out a bigger circle for the center of your sunflower. Then glue it down on the middle of your paper plate.

STEP 5

Then, cut a long rectangle and oval shape from the green construction paper. These will be our stem and leaf!

STEP 6

Glue your stem and leaf to the back of your sunflower and it’s complete! Show your loved ones what you are thankful for this year.
