Paper towel roll walrus

STREAM Activity: Paper Towel Roll Walrus

Brrr!
Activity best for children ages four and up

We’ve arrived in the Arctic, a magical land of ice and snow. Here, we find some unique animals that each adapted to survive and thrive in their icy homes. Animals have furry feet that act like snowshoes, helping them walk without sinking. They also have thick fur and blubber to insulate their bodies, and white camouflage to blend in with the snow. Some animals hibernate during the coldest months, sleeping for a long time conserving energy until spring arrives. Amongst the Arctic animals is the Walrus! Walruses have thick blubber that keeps them warm and incredible diving skills that allow them to search for food efficiently. Their impressive tusks serve multiple purposes: they help pull themselves out of the water, defense, and facilitate social interactions within their groups. Additionally, their strong flippers enable them to swim gracefully and dive to depths of up to 250 feet in pursuit of their favorite snacks. Together, these adaptations make walruses well-suited to life in the Arctic. Now let’s dive into our walrus craft!
