Visitor Services Associate
Part-time Position
Summary
The Visitor Services Associate provides our visitors with a positive first impression of our museum and the experience that we provide. They are responsible for welcoming visitors and encouraging learning through play by contributing to an environment that encourages curiosity, creative thinking, exploration, and experimentation. This position will promote a culture of ongoing learning, collaboration, innovation, creativity, and community engagement by supporting the Museum’s mission, vision, and values.
Responsibilities
- Customer Service & Sales
- Operate the Altru point of sale system to process all admissions, memberships, gift certificates and gift shop sales
- Promote and sell museum membership, facility rentals, birthday parties, discovery camps, workshops, and special event
- Provide accurate information in a timely manner about exhibits, programs, and events to all visitors; respond to visitor and guest inquiries, phone calls and emails
- Assist the education team with daily programs
- Address any visitor issues or concerns and escalating to management when necessary
- Responsible for processing all forms of payment and maintaining an accurate cash drawer
- Ensure merchandise areas are clean, stocked and organized
- Facilities & Operations
- Ensure that all public areas are clean, disinfected, and free from safety hazards
- Responsible for all opening & closing duties of the museum including opening cash drawer, closing cash drawer, cleaning, and ensuring that the building is locked before leaving
- Coordinate with Facilities & Exhibits staff to maintain exhibit and facility standards
- Monitor emails to the Front Desk, participate in end-of-day summary and feedback email
- Monitor cleaning schedule and maintain high standards for orderliness, cleanliness, and sanitation, including daily cleaning, deep cleaning, laundry, and minor exhibits detail
- Coordinate with Facilities/Exhibits staff to maintain exhibit and facility standards
Qualifications
Able to collaborate with all internal teams to build a positive, supportive, and inclusive culture focused on delivering value to our visitors
Promotes a culture of inclusivity and belonging that embraces the contributions of all team members
Must be kind, enthusiastic, friendly and have a desire to interact with children
Ability to listen and effectively communicate with a diverse population
Willingness to continually learn and adapt to challenges and differing perspectives
Bilingual a plus
